We use the Pluperfect Subjunctive in Counterfactual conditional sentences in the past. That is to say, to express what could have or should have happened if certain conditions in the past had been met.
Conditional Phrases: Si + Hubiera…., Habría…..
Si + Pluscuamperfecto de Subjuntivo (If something Had Happened) + resultado en Condicional Compuesto + (Something else Would Have Been the result).
